Robert "Big Mojo" Elem, born Robert Elem on January 22, 1928, in Itta Bena, Mississippi, was an American bass guitarist and singer. Inspired by Robert Nighthawk and Ike Turner, Elem began his musical journey playing rhythm guitar before transitioning to the electric bass. By 1948, he had moved to Chicago, where he started backing Arthur "Big Boy" Spires and Lester Davenport. In 1956, Elem formed a band with Earl Payton and Freddie King, contributing to King's debut single for El-Bee Records, which featured "Country Boy" and "That's What You Think". Throughout the 1950s and 1960s, Elem performed extensively in Chicago's club scene. In 1978, he released his debut album Mojo Boogie on Storyville Records. Elem continued to perform locally until his death in Chicago on February 5, 1997.
