Davut Sulari, born in 1925 in Çayırlı, Erzincan Province, Turkey, was a Turkish folk music artist, poet, lyricist, and composer. He was raised by his grandmother, Rindi Hanim, after being entrusted to her care at an early age. His interest in poetry, singing, and playing the bağlama (saz) was influenced by his grandfather Kaltik Mehmet Aga, an Alevi poet. At the age of 17, he became an Aşık, an Alevi poet and musician. By 22, he left home on horseback to travel from village to village as a singer. Sulari's career included working at the radio in Ankara and performing his works in both Turkish and Zazaki languages. He passed away on January 18, 1985, in Erzurum. His recordings were released posthumously on the album Bugün Bayram Günü Derler (1999), issued by Kalan Müzik, which includes songs such as “Necef Deryası (Semah)”.
