J Church was an American punk rock band from San Francisco, California, formed in 1992 by Lance Hahn and Gardner Maxam. The group was established following the dissolution of their previous band, Cringer. The band was named after a San Francisco Muni Metro line. Throughout a career that included numerous lineup changes, they released an estimated 150 records. Notable albums include Quetzalcoatl (1993), Prophylaxis (1994), and The Procession of Simulacra/Map Precedes Territory (1995). They released split albums with groups including Discount (2000) and Storm the Tower (2003). Hahn died on October 21, 2007, from complications related to kidney dialysis.
