Dick Raaijmakers, also known as Dick Raaymakers or Kid Baltan, was born on September 1, 1930, in Maastricht, Netherlands, was a Dutch composer known for his pioneering work in electronic music. He studied piano at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague and began his career working in electro-acoustic research at Koninklijke Philips Electronics N.V. from 1954 to 1960. Under the pseudonym Kid Baltan, Raaijmakers produced some of the earliest electronic pop music with Tom Dissevelt as Electrosoniks, including the album The Fascinating World Of Electronic Music in 1959. From 1963 to 1966, he collaborated with Jan Boerman in a self-established studio for electronic music in The Hague. Raaijmakers taught electronic and contemporary music at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague from 1966 until his retirement in 1995. His notable works include Ballad 'Erlkönig' / 5 Canons (1981) and The Complete Tape Music Of Dick Raaijmakers (1998). He passed away on September 4, 2013.
