Danielle Stech-Homsy, known professionally as Rio en Medio, was born in New Mexico and raised in California and Arizona. She began performing and recording original compositions after moving to Brooklyn, New York. Her debut album, The Bride of Dynamite (originally titled A Bride's Guide to Waiting Music), was released in February 2007 on Gnomonsong, a label run by Devendra Banhart. Stech-Homsy collaborated with artists including Grizzly Bear and CocoRosie. Her second album, Frontier, followed in October 2008. Songs include "Fall Up" (2008) and a cover of "Pictures of You" by The Cure for the tribute album Perfect as Cats: A Tribute to The Cure. She later moved on from the Rio en Medio moniker to operate under the name The Blue Knots, releasing the album Becoming Noise in 2025. She is based in Portland.
