Irma Consuelo Cielo Serrano Castro was a Mexican ranchera and corrido singer, actress, and politician born on December 9, 1933, in Comitán, Chiapas. She began her career as a dancer before signing with Columbia Records in 1962. In 1963, Serrano received the Folklore Revelation Trophy and the Macuilxóchitl award. She recorded the song “La Martina” and albums including La Nueva Intérprete de la Canción Ranchera (1964). Serrano performed in the film Samson vs. the Zombies (1962) and adopted the pseudonym “La Tigresa” in 1968. In 1972, she acquired the Virginia Fábregas Theater, renaming it Teatro Fru Fru, and produced the play Naná (1973). Serrano served as a senator for Chiapas between 1994 and 1997. Serrano died on March 1, 2023.
