Hanayo is a Japanese musician and artist born as Hanayo Nakajima in 1970 in Tokyo. She achieved professional recognition for a musical career that began after training as a geisha and appearing on the cover of the magazine The Face (1992). Hanayo achieved professional recognition for founding the ensemble Muscats (1992) with the musicians Masami Akita and Masaya Nakahara. Her recording career began with the song “Makka Na Shizuku” (1995) produced by the musician Jun Miyake and the studio recording Dang Dong (1995). She achieved professional recognition for relocating to London and the studio recording Sayonalala (1996) featuring the ensemble the Black Dog and the musician Hair Stylistics. Hanayo achieved professional recognition for joining the ensemble Vapid Dolly (1996) and the studio recording Queen of Pseudo Psychos (1997). She achieved professional recognition for performing as a vocalist on the song “Joe le taxi” (2002) which was remixed by the ensemble Soulwax. Her discography included the studio recording Gift (2000) featuring the musician Terre Thaemlitz and the musician Kai Althoff. Hanayo achieved professional recognition for the ensemble Wooden Veil (2007) and performing in the film Second Generation (2000). She achieved professional recognition for the studio recording Wooden Veil (2009), the studio recording Over the Rainbow (2014), and the studio recording Cloudy Day (2014).
