Earl Gaines Jr., born August 19, 1935, in Decatur, Alabama, was an American soul blues and electric blues singer. After moving to Nashville, he joined Louis Brooks' Hi-Toppers group, contributing to their hit single "It's Love Baby (24 Hours a Day)" which peaked at number 2 on the US Billboard R&B chart in 1955. Gaines embarked on a solo career with minor successes like "The Best of Luck to You" (1966) and "Hymn Number 5" (1973). He recorded for various labels including Champion, Poncello, King, Sound Stage 7, and released several albums such as House Party (1989), Nothin' But The Blues (2008) and posthumously, Good To Me (2010) Gaines passed away on December 31, 2009.
