James Gary Harman, born June 8, 1946, in Anniston, Alabama, was an American blues harmonica player, singer, and songwriter. Harman began playing piano at age four and later took up the harmonica and other instruments. In 1962, Harman moved to Panama City, Florida, and played in various rhythm and blues bands. First singles were recorded in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1964. Harman performed extensively in cities like Chicago and New York before relocating to southern California in the 1970s. In 1977, Harman formed the James Harman Band, releasing several albums during the 1980s and 1990s, including Those Dangerous Gentlemen (1987), Two Sides to Every Story (1990), Do Not Disturb (1991), Cards on the Table (1994), Bonetime (2015), and Fineprint (2018). The work of Harman featured in films and television. Harman died on May 23, 2021, of a heart attack following a battle with stage 4 esophageal cancer.
