Prof. Dr. Winfried Bönig, born in 1959 in Bamberg, Germany, is an organist and academic. He began his musical journey with Wolfgang Wünsch at the Bamberger Dom before studying under Franz Lehrndorfer at the Munich Academy of Music, where he earned his diploma with distinction. In 1984, Bönig became an organist and conductor at the Catholic parish church of St. Joseph in Memmingen, leading orchestral performances and concert cycles featuring works by Johann Sebastian Bach, Max Reger, and Olivier Messiaen. He was awarded the Culture Prize of the City of Memmingen in 1995. In 1998, Bönig became a professor at the Cologne University Music of Dance, and in 2001, he began serving as cathedral organist at the Cologne Cathedral. His notable recordings include An Den Orgeln Im Hohen Dom Zu Köln (2002) and an arrangement of Johann Sebastian Bach's Goldberg Variations (2007). He has premiered works by composers such as Enjott Schneider and Jean Guillou.
