Born in Ilford, England on November 28, 1971, Robert Mitchell is a jazz pianist, composer, and educator. He studied at the City University and Guildhall School of Music and Drama before beginning his musical journey. He became an active member of Tomorrow’s Warriors, a jazz music education and artist development organization. In the late 1990s, he joined the group J.Life, releasing the album Tomorrow’s Warriors Presents… J.Life in 1998. Robert Mitchell then formed the group Robert Mitchell’s Panacea and issued he albums Voyager (2001), Trust (2005), and The Cusp (2010). During this period, he was also a member Quite Sane, who released the album in Child of Troubled Times (2002). His first solo album, Equinox, was released in 2006 and followed by Bridges, a collaboration with violinist Omar Puente, the same year. Further Robert Mitchell solo albums include The Glimpse (2013) and A Vigil for Justice, a Vigil for Peace (2017). He also formed his own trio, Robert Mitchell’s 3I0, and released two albums: The Greater Good (2008) and The Embrace (2011). Alongside all of these projects, he has also found time to work with other artists including Norma Winstone, Steve Coleman, Greg Osby, Courtney Pine, and many others. Robert Mitchell has taught composition and jazz at the Royal Academy of Music Jazz Department, WAC, City University London, and Middlesex University.
