Orkest de Volharding, a Dutch music ensemble, was founded in 1972. The group's unique instrumentation included three trumpets, one horn, three trombones, three saxophones, and one flute, expanded by a piano and a double bass. Louis Andriessen composed De Volharding (1971/72), which inspired the ensemble’s formation. Initially performing at political events and street festivals, Orkest de Volharding later transitioned to concert halls. The group commissioned over 300 works from composers such as Louis Andriessen and Willem van Manen. Notable albums include Orkest de Volharding (1980) and Hex (1993). Orkest de Volharding disbanded in 2010 following the withdrawal of government funding, concluding with a final concert on February 21.
