The Kossoy Sisters were an American folk duo consisting of identical twins Irene Saletan and Ellen Christenson, born on May 11, 1938, in New York City. They began singing together at age six and recorded their debut album, Bowling Green, in 1956 with sound engineer Mel Kaiser. That same year, they performed at the Bound for Glory tribute concert for Woody Guthrie. After attending Blackburn College, the sisters performed at the inaugural Newport Folk Festival in 1959. Their work reached new audiences when Bowling Green was reissued in 1996. The track "I’ll Fly Away" was subsequently featured in the 2000 film O Brother, Where Art Thou?. The sisters released a second album, Hop on Pretty Girls, in 2002 and returned to the Newport Folk Festival in 2012. The duo later became inactive and moved to Guatemala.
