Mother Mallard’s Portable Masterpiece Company, a synthesizer ensemble formed in 1969 by David Borden in the United States, was an early pioneer in electronic music. The group, which included Steve Drews and Linda Fisher on additional synthesizers, began performing minimalist compositions by Terry Riley, Steve Reich, and Philip Glass. Their debut album, Mother Mallard’s Portable Masterpiece Company, was recorded in 1970 but released three years later by Earthquack Records. The ensemble's second album, Like a Duck to Water, followed in 1976. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Mother Mallard’s Portable Masterpiece Company continued to release albums under the Cuneiform record label, incorporating new digital synthesizer technology and acoustic woodwind instruments. Notable works include The Continuing Story of Counterpoint Parts 1-4+8, released in 1991.
