Daniel Clarke, born 24 February 1967 in London to Jamaican parents, is a British Jamaican reggae singer who developed an early affinity for reggae during childhood visits to Jamaica. Clarke began his career as a deejay in 1980 with the City Dread sound system and later joined the Fine Style Crew, releasing his first singles "Original Formula" and "Armagideon" in 1991 under the name Danny Dread before adopting the moniker Danny Red to avoid confusion. In the early 1990s he transitioned to a roots reggae vocalist, issuing the Riddim Wize EP in 1993 followed by the album Riddimwize in 1994, which featured the track "Rolling Stone" produced by Sly & Robbie and achieved a minor crossover hit. The same year, Columbia Records signed Danny Red, making him the first roots reggae artist on the label in over a decade. Subsequent releases included the single "Rise Up" in 1995 and the album Iteopian Rock in 2008. Danny Red collaborated with Gussie P, Mafia & Fluxy, and contributed vocals to Leftfield’s Inspection on the album Leftism. Throughout the 2000s he issued the singles "Be Grateful" in 2006, "Something Wrong" in 2007, "Let I Live" in 2009, and "Jah Jah Me" in 2011.
