Hirabai Barodekar, born Champākali on May 29, 1905, in India, was a Hindustani classical music singer of the Kirana gharana, a stylistic tradition in Indian classical music. She received her initial musical training from her brother Sureshbabu Mane and later from Ustād Abdul Wahid Khān. Hirabai made her public debut at age 15 under the patronage of Kesarbai Kerkar. Throughout her career, she excelled in various genres including Khyāl, Thumri, Marāthi Nātya Sangeet, and Bhajan. Her rendition of "Taar Sa" became a hallmark of her performances. Hirabai acted in several movies, including Suvarna Mandir, Pratibhā, Janābāi, and Municipality. She was the first female artist to introduce ticketed concerts in India and founded the music school "Nutan Sangeet Vidyālaya" to teach music to girls. Hirabai received numerous accolades, including the Sangeet Nātak Akādemi Award in 1965 and the Padma Bhushan Award in 1970. She passed away on November 20, 1989.
