Timothy Ridout - born in London, England in 1995 – is an acclaimed violist. He had been studying the viola at the Royal Academy of Music under Martin Outram, graduating in 2016. That same year, he was the first British violist since 1980 to win First Prize at the Lionel Tertis International Viola Competition. In March 2017, Timothy Ridout, gave his debut recital at Wigmore Hall in London accompanied by pianist Anthony Hewitt. He released his first album, Vieuxtemps: Complete Works for Viola – featuring pianist Ke Ma – in 2017. Timothy Ridout continued his studies at the Kronberg Academy (in Hesse, Germany) and earned his master’s degree in 2019. He was then selected as a BBC New Generation Artist in 2019 and released his second album, Britten - Vaughan-Williams – Hindemith – Martinu: Music for Viola and Chamber Orchestra, the following year. Timothy Ridout began a residency at the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center in New York as part of the Bowers program. In 2021, he issued his third album, A Poet’s Love, featuring pianist Frank Dupree, which was followed by Mendelssohn: The String Quintets (2022) and Elgar: Viola Concerto - Bloch: Suite for Viola & Orchestra with the BBC Symphony Orchestra (2023). Timothy Ridout has also collaborated with artists including Antje Weithaas, Christoph Eschenbach, the Doric String Quartet, and many others.
