Eftychia Papagiannopoulou, known simply as Eftychia, was born in Aydın near İzmir in the Ottoman Empire in 1893 and later emigrated to Greece. She began her career as a lyricist after settling permanently in Athens following her departure from İzmir in 1919. Papagiannopoulou wrote the lyrics for many popular Greek songs, collaborating with notable composers such as Vassilis Tsitsanis, Apostolos Kaldaras and Manos Hadjidakis. Her work includes well-known songs like "Ta kavourakia" (music by Vassilis Tsitsanis), "Dio portes echi i zoi" (music by Stelios Kazantzidis) and "Ime aetos horis ftera" (music by Manos Hadjidakis). Despite her significant contributions to Greek music, Papagiannopoulou did not achieve major fame during her lifetime. She passed away in Athens on January 7, 1972. Posthumously, recognition for her work increased with the publication of a book by lyricist and journalist Lefteris Papadopoulos in 2002 and a biographical film directed by Angelos Frantzis in 2019.
