Born on 3 December 1982 in Gumi, North Gyeongsang, South Korean singing sensation Hwang Chi Yeul (Korean: 황치열; Hanja: 黃致列) moved to Seoul in 2004 and began his musical journey three years later, introducing his voice on the 2007 single album Chi Yeul and studio debut Five Senses (오감) as well landing several TV appearances. However, his career was subsequently derailed due to the closure of his management company and he retreated from the public eye for several years. He re-emerged with the "A Man From Gyeongsang-do" (경상도남자) single in 2014 and two more singles in 2015: "Holding The End of This Night" (이 밤의 끝을 잡고) with LeeSa and "The First Time I Met You" (너를 처음 만난 그때) with Baek A-yeon. Released as part of the Two Yoo Project – Sugar Man (Korean: 투유 프로젝트 – 슈가맨) album for the South Korean TV show, the track went to number 49 on South Korea's Circle Digital Chart and helped to revive his profile. Over the next few years, he logged a string of releases, including the chart-topping Be Ordinary EP (2017)—his first studio release in a decade— second studio album and first Chinese full-length, Chi-yeul. Love (2017), and second Korean full-length, The Four Seasons, which zoomed to number two in South Korea. He also took part in the Chinese version of the singing competition show I Am a Singer in 2016 while picking up many accolades along the way: the New Wave Award at the Asia Artist Awards 2016, the Best Icon Award at the Asia Artist Awards 2017, the Album Bonsang (Main Prize) at the Golden Disc Awards 2018, among others. A success of Korean singles and EPs followed the release of Be Ordinary in 2016, from 2018 EP Be Myself, which also topped the Circle Album Chart, and 2018 single "Learn to Love" (그대가 내 안에 박혔다) to 2022's By My Side EP, which reached number three, and the "No Love" (그런 사랑은 없어) single. December 2023 saw the release of the I Love Winter EP.
