Marek Bałata, born on August 31, 1955, in Rzeszów, Poland, is a jazz singer and guitarist. He studied in Krakow, influenced by Fryderyk Chopin and Krzysztof Komeda. Initially performing as both a singer and guitarist, he later focused solely on singing. His breakthrough came with the formation of his own quintet after early successes. In 1996, Bałata toured with the vocal group Cantabile in Jazz. He collaborated extensively with artists including Tomasz Stańko, Zbigniew Namysłowski, and Krzysztof Ścierański, recording an album of Ewa Karpf's poetry titled Wiersze in 1998. Bałata received the honor prize at the Jazz Juniors Festival in Krakow in both 1982 and 1983, and won first prize at the international meeting of jazz singers in Zamosc in 1988. His notable albums include Voice Paintings (1994) and Kolędy.
