Loreta L. Waynesboro, also known as Rita Moss, born on July 4, 1918, in Cabin Creek, Kanawha, West Virginia, was an American jazz and ballad singer known for her four-octave vocal range. She began her music career at the age of 17 by copyrighting two songs and played piano at her high school graduation. In 1950, Moss released her first singles on Futurama Records, including "Tradin' in the Old for a New/I'm in the Middle Again". Her debut album, Introducing Rita Moss, was issued by Epic Records in 1956. Throughout the 1950s and 1960s, she released several albums and singles on various labels, including Dot Records, where her song "Just a Dream Ago" became one of her most enduring tracks. Moss continued to perform live into the 2000s, known for her captivating nightclub performances. She passed away on July 16, 2015.
