Luis Magín Díaz García, better known as Magín Díaz, was a Colombian singer and composer born on December 30, 1922, in Gamero, Bolívar. He grew up as the son of a farm worker and a well-known bullerengue singer. From a young age, he displayed musical talent, learning to sing, compose, and play percussion instruments. Despite his contributions to Afro-Colombian music, Magín Díaz lived most of his life in anonymity. He is credited with the chalupa version of "Rosa (Qué Linda Eres)," a 1927 song originally by Sexteto Habanero. In the 1980s, he recorded with Los Soneros de Gamero and Los Wadingos, but these recordings did not gain mainstream attention. Magín Díaz's recognition came late in life. His first famous recording, Magín y Santiago, was released in 2012. This was followed by Magín Díaz y el Sexteto Gamerano (2015) and his acclaimed album El Orisha de la Rosa (2017). The album included the single "Rosa" featuring Carlos Vives and Totó la Momposina, and contributions by Monsieur Periné, Chango Spasiuk, and Petrona Martínez. El Orisha de la Rosa received two Latin Grammy nominations for Best Folk Album and Best Package Design. In 2017, at 95 years old, Díaz received the National Life and Work Award from the Colombian Ministry of Culture.
