Joseph Amoto Formaran, known professionally as Blakdyak, was born on July 25, 1969, in Olongapo, Zambales, Philippines. He began his musical journey singing in high school and later performed with comedian-performers across provinces before moving to Manila. In 1997, Viva Records signed him after discovering his talent, leading to the release of his debut album Noon At Ngayon. This album featured hit singles "Good Boy" and "Noon at Ngayon," marking Blakdyak as the first local solo reggae act to achieve significant success. He received a Platinum Record Award for Noon At Ngayon and won awards at the 1998 Awit Awards for Best Novelty Act and Best New Male Performer. Throughout his career, Blakdyak released several albums including Magic Kapote, Bumbay, and May Tama. He was also known for his acting roles in various films. Blakdyak passed away on November 21, 2016, at the age of 47.
