Om Unit is a renowned UK-based drum and bass producer, DJ, and composer born and raised in London and based in Bristol. Om Unit, whose real name is James Coles (born 1980), has made a significant impact on the global bass music scene with his genre-defying sound that blends elements of drum and bass, jungle, hip-hop, dubstep, and ambient music. His career began in the early 2010s when he emerged as a fresh and unique voice in the underground electronic music community. His early releases garnered attention for their complex rhythms, intricate sound design, and ability to fuse traditional drum and bass with experimental and atmospheric elements. He logged a string of releases for various labels before releasing his debut album on Civil Music in 2013. Throughout his career, Om Unit has released music on prominent labels such as Metalheadz and Rupture and has collaborated with notable artists from across the globe. He has put out a prolific number of tracks and EPs, including his ambient dub trilogy, Acid Dub Studies, which tracked its first instalment in 2021 and its third, Acid Dub Studies III, in 2025. He has also produced around thirty EPs, including The Timps (2011), Transport (2011), Aeolian (2012), Inversion (2014), Torchlight Vols 1-3 (2015-2016), Violet (2019), Atlantis (2023), and Oracles (2026).
