Horacio Franco is a Mexican flutist and orchestra director born on October 11, 1963, in Mexico City. He made his performance debut at age 13 on April 12, 1978, playing Antonio Vivaldi's “Concerto for Recorder in A Minor” with the Chamber Orchestra of the National Conservatory of Music. He studied at the National Conservatory of Mexico and the Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam. In 1986, he co-founded the Trio Hotteterre, which released the albums Trío Hotteterre in 1987 and Las Folias in 1992. From 1993 to 1998, Franco directed the ensemble Cappella Cervantina, and in 1997, he led the Academy of St Martin in the Fields in London. His recording history includes Música Barroca Mexicana in 1996 and Lienzos de Viento in 2011. In addition to his musical career, Franco has served as a deputy to the Constituent Assembly of Mexico City and is an activist for LGBT rights.
