Basil Kirchin, born Basil Philip Kirchinsky on August 20, 1927 in Blackpool, Lancashire, England, was a British drummer and composer. He began his career at age 13 playing drums with his father's big band orchestra. After World War II, he played with various bands before returning to work with his father in 1951. Kirchin started experimenting with electronic music in the late 1960s, using a Nagra tape recorder to collect ambient sounds and animal noises. He released two albums titled Worlds Within Worlds (1971 and 1974), featuring free improvising musicians. His work included composing for films like Catch Us If You Can (1965) and The Abominable Dr. Phibes (1971). Kirchin continued to produce music in Hull until his death on June 18, 2005.
