Stateless, an English electronic rock band from Leeds and London, was formed in 2002. The group's members have included Chris James (vocals, keyboards, guitar), Kidkanevil (turntables, sampling, programming), Justin Percival (bass, vocals), and David Levin (drums). In February 2003, they released their first demo, featuring "Exit" and "Prism No. 1", which gained traction after being played on Colin Murray's evening show. Stateless signed with Sony Music in 2004, releasing the single "Down Here". They transitioned to !K7 Records in November 2006 and released their self-titled debut album in 2007. The band subsequently signed with Ninja Tune for their second album, Matilda, which was released in 2011. tateless is known for its genre-blending sound, fusing elements of electronic music, trip hop, and hip hop with influences from Radiohead, DJ Shadow, and Massive Attack.
