K’ala Marka, a Bolivian musical group founded in 1984 in La Paz by Hugo Gutiérrez and Rodolfo Choque, formed as part of a research project on Andean music. Their music blended traditional Bolivian rhythms with contemporary influences. The band's first albums, Khochusiñani (1986) and Village de Pierre (1987), featured traditional songs and covers. In 1989, K’ala Marka released their first album with original compositions, Chuyma lunthata. Subsequent releases include "Cuando florezca el chuño" (1991), which was later involved in a plagiarism lawsuit against German group Cordalis, and Solo por ti (1995). The group has performed extensively internationally, including at the Expo 92 in Sevilla, Spain and a tour of Germany with Los Javias in 1994. They have received several awards, including the Medalla de Oro for originality in 1984 and Mejor espectáculo en vivo at the Premio Maya in 2015.
