Fred Fried, born on December 2, 1948, in New York City, is an American jazz guitarist. He studied guitar under George Van Eps and John Collins in Los Angeles before returning to New York. His early career included regular performances with the Judd Wodin Trio at venues like the World Trade Center and Birdland, as well as collaborations with notable artists such as Art Pepper and Michael Formanek. Fried's discography includes albums like Fingerdance - Solo guitar (Cutaway Records), What Two Can Do (Rush Records), and Chrystalline (Rush Records). He also composed ballet music for works including Out of My Dreams, Cloud, and Encore (all released under Ballet Tree). Known for his unique fingerstyle technique and use of seven- and eight-string guitars, Fried has performed with a variety of artists, including Marty Napoleon, Jay Leonhart, Ruby Braff, Perry Como, and Barbara Cook.
