Raimundo Roberto Morhy Barbosa, known professionally as Beto Barbosa, was born on February 27, 1955, in Belém, Pará, Brazil. He is a Brazilian composer and vocalist, best known for his contributions to the lambada genre. Barbosa began his musical career in his hometown of Belém before moving to Fortaleza, Ceará, where he gained initial success. His breakthrough came in the 1980s with the hit single "Adocica", which, along with the band Kaoma, sparked a global lambada craze. Barbosa released numerous albums throughout his career, including Atos e Fatos (1985), Símbolo Perfeito (1987), and Adocica (1988). His work has been covered by various artists, such as the Dominican group Los Hermanos Rosario with "Embalo Trilegal" and the Colombian band Afrosound with "Mar de Emoções". Barbosa won several awards, including the Troféu Imprensa for best singer from Northern Brazil. As of 2025, he had released 22 albums and sold over six million copies worldwide.
