Ilona Prunyi, born on May 1, 1941 in Debrecen, Hungary, is a pianist and music educator. She began her musical studies at the Franz Liszt Music Academy in Budapest from 1958 to 1963 under József Gát and András Mihály, later becoming a lecturer there herself. Prunyi's career took off with her concert debut in 1974, after which she performed extensively with Hungarian orchestras and chamber ensembles, both as a soloist and in four-hand collaborations. She has been recognized multiple times for her contributions to music, including receiving the Artisjus-díj award on several occasions, the Liszt Ferenc Prize in 1994, the Bartók Pásztory Prize in 2011, and the Meritorious Artist of Hungary Award in 2015. Prunyi is also known for her advocacy of lesser-known composers such as Stephen Heller and Ernő Dohnányi, releasing notable works like Tchaikovsky: The Seasons in 1989 and Godowsky: Walzermasken in 1990.
