Hesperus, an early music and traditional music ensemble, was founded in 1979 by Scott Reiss and Tina Chancey in the United States. The group initially focused on early European music, American traditional music, and crossover fusions of the two, later expanding to include British and Spanish Colonial music. Their first album, Crossing Over, was released in 1988. In 1997, they released three notable albums: Early American Roots, Neo-Medieval, and Unicorn. Early American Roots featured music included in the soundtrack of the 1999 film Sleepy Hollow. From 1989 to 1996, Hesperus was a resident ensemble at the National Museum of American History. They performed internationally on tours sponsored by the United States Information Agency, visiting countries such as Brunei, Indonesia, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Panama, Bolivia, Germany, and Italy. Notable albums include Celtic Roots (1999), Colonial America (2003), and An Early American Quilt (2007).
