Born in Quito, Ecuador in 1988, Juan Esteban Proaño Calderón (his real name) is an Ecuadorian Reggaeton artist.
He drew his musical inspiration from his father, who plays the guitar and was a drummer in a rock cover band in his youth. Also running through his veins is the blood of his great-grandmother, a harp professor at the National Conservatory of Music.
In August 2015 he travelled to Medellín, Colombia, to record his first hit “Tu y Yo” with Infinity Music, a Grammy-award winning record label, alongside J Balvin’s producers, “Sky y Mosty”. The single ranked #13 on the AirPlay urban chart in Ecuador.
Juan Esteban has worked as Executive Producer at Master Records, a Quito-based record studio, and produced and developed blooming local artists. He also co-created the record “Boom Boom” by UKU- Ecuadorian urban-pop band.
His style is special, with a genuine and authentic voice. He can reach high notes and sings in a distinctive vibrato. JEP does not use voice refining plugins like "Auto-tune" to prevent altering his voice. He prefers a more organic sound and his lyrics are a mix of explicit and commercial records.
After a 5-year hiatus, in 2020, Juan Esteban released the “Soy Yo” official video as well as his first explicit track , “Meneo”. In 2021 he released “Solo Mia”, an urban-pop song. “Mi Niña” y “Otra Noche” are his latest singles, reflecting new musical concepts. His next single, “CPR”, will be an old school “perreo”, "Luny Tunes" style. “Yo Te Amé” (available only on YouTube) will be his first romantic record.
Juan Esteban took singing lessons while attending college at Florida International University, where he graduated in 2012 with a Bachelor in Science in Hospitality and Management, and enrolled in music production classes shortly after graduating.
