Ricky Lynn Gregg, born on August 22, 1959, in Longview, Texas, was an American country music artist of Native American descent. He began singing in church at a young age and formed the Ricky Lynn Gregg Project as a teenager. In 1978, he moved to Fort Worth, Texas, and performed with the band Savvy. By 1992, Gregg signed to Liberty Records and released his self-titled debut album, which included the single "If I Had a Cheatin' Heart." His second album, Get a Little Closer, was released in 1994. In 1993, Billboard ranked him at Number 4 on their list of Top New Country Artists of the Year. After his manager Jimmy Bowen retired due to thyroid cancer in 1995, Gregg found another manager, Eddie Rhines, who helped rebuild his fan base. In 2001, his third and final album, Careful What You Wish For, was released on Rowe Music Group.
