Giorgio Koukl is a Czech composer and pianist born Georg Jiři Koukl in 1953 in Prague. He began his musical training at the Conservatoire de Prague before relocating to Lugano in 1968. Koukl continued his studies at the conservatories of Zurich and Milan and participated in masterclasses with Rudolf Firkušný and Carlo Vidusso. He also received instruction from Nikita Magaloff, Jacques Février, and Stanislas Neuhaus. Koukl participated in international competitions in Colombia, Spain, Italy, and Switzerland. His discography included a series of seven recordings for Naxos featuring the solo piano music of Bohuslav Martinů, released between 2006 and 2009. He also recorded the complete piano works of Alexandre Tcherepnine and Paul Le Flem. His chamber music recordings featured works by Arthur Tansman and Anton Rubinstein. Koukl published vocal, chamber, and orchestral compositions. He also performed as a harpsichordist and lied accompanist.
