Pedro Joaquín Castro, known professionally as Coco Diaz, and born on January 21, 1936, in Tostado, Argentina, was a folk singer-songwriter and composer. He began his career in the early 1960s as a singer with Los Cantores de Salavina and gained recognition at the Cosquín National Folklore Festival in 1966 with "Pará que tiá contá". Diaz received three gold records from EMI Odeón and Microfón, and the Templo de Oro award for highest annual sales. In 1978, he also began hosting the radio program El rancho de Coco Diaz on Radio Colonia, fostering emerging artists such as Viviana Vigil and Hugo Giménez Agüero. In 1996, a plaza in his hometown of Tostado was named after him. He continued performing and receiving recognition until his death on March 11, 2021.
