Vitam et Mortem, a Colombian metal band, was founded in March 2002 in El Carmen de Viboral by Julián David Trujillo Moreno (Thánatos), who served as composer, singer, and guitarist. The group initially blended ethnic black death metal with pre-Hispanic South American folk sounds. Their first performance occurred on July 11, 2003, at the Sinfonía para el funeral de un ángel concert. The band's debut album Life in Death was released in 2007 under Cannibal Native Records, followed by releases such as Commanding the Obscure Imperius (2008), Death Metal 666 (2010), and Historias de tiranía (2014). Vitam et Mortem gained significant recognition participating in notable events such as the Festival Internacional Altavoz and Rock al Río. Their album El Río de la Muerte, released in 2020, explored themes of war and violence, featuring melancholic sounds and guttural vocals.
