Marilyn Lerner, born on February 4, 1957, in Montreal, Canada, is a Canadian pianist known for her contributions to jazz music. She began her musical journey with classical training before focusing on jazz piano and improvisation at York University under mentors such as Richie Beirach, Hal Galper, Cedar Walton, Joanne Brackeen, and Fred Hersch. Lerner's career took off with collaborations alongside notable artists like Jane Bunnett, Jean Derome, Gerry Hemingway, Steve Lacy, Vinny Golia, Bobby Hutcherson, Thomas Lehn, Joëlle Léandre, Arturo Sandoval, and Tito Puente. In 1992, she co-founded the improvisational duo Queen Mab with clarinetist Lori Freedman, which later expanded to a trio in 2002. Lerner's notable albums include Miss Overboard! (1994), Special Angel (2003), for which she won a Western Canadian Music Award in 2004.
