Cacophony (real name Kim Minkyeong, born April 29, 1994) is a South Korean art pop musician known for her emotionally rich soundscapes and poetic lyricism. Originally a student of business administration and French literature at Yonsei University, she shifted to music after the loss of her mother to lung cancer—a pivotal moment that led to her debut. She released her first studio album, Harmony (화 [和]) in 2018, followed by Dream (몽 [夢]) in 2019, which explored themes of parting and love and was nominated for Best Pop Album at the 2020 Korean Music Awards. In 2021, she released the reflective EP Reborn, and in 2022, the introspective single "The Marvelous Absence (황홀한 실종)". Her third studio album DIPUC arrived in 2023, preceded by the singles "Change (변화)" and "End". Cacophony also took part in the collaborative indie project Musician Sports Club, joining artists like Xeuda and Jang Myung Sun. On April 21, 2025, she released her latest EP, April’s Party, continuing her tradition of blending delicate melodies with personal storytelling. Signed to Enchanter, Cacophony remains a distinctive voice in Korea’s indie scene, lauded for her artistic vulnerability and genre-defying compositions.
