Shawn Christopher, born in Chicago, Illinois, is an American singer known for her contributions to electronic music. Her early career began as a touring backing vocalist for R&B singer Chaka Khan from 1982 to 1985. During this period, she also collaborated with the industrial dance band My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult and the group Sonia Dada. Her breakthrough came in 1989 when she sang lead vocals on "French Kiss" by DJ/producer Lil Louis, which reached Number 1 on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart. Throughout the 1990s, she achieved significant success with three Number 1 singles on the same chart: "Another Sleepless Night" in 1991, "Don't Lose the Magic" in 1992, and "Sweet Freedom" in 1998. Her other notable releases include "Make My Love" (1994), which reached number 57 on the UK Singles Chart, and "Heartbeat" by Jimmy Somerville in 1995, where she contributed backing vocals.
