Betsy & Chris, comprising Elizabeth Wagner from Hawaii and Christine Rolseth from Idaho, were a folk music duo known for their unique blend of American folk and Japanese lyrics. They began their musical journey as members of The Sound of Young Hawaii in 1969, which brought them to Japan. Their breakthrough came with the release of "White is the colour of lovers" (白い色は恋人の色) on October 1, 1969, which peaked at number 2 on the Orion Charts. This success was followed by other notable singles such as "Like a Flower" (花のように), released on February 10, 1970, and "It's Summer, and you ... " (夏よおまえは) on June 1, 1970. The duo achieved significant chart success in Japan from 1969 to 1972. Their discography includes albums such as On Stage (1970), 日本の詩 = Autumn In Village (1971), and ベッツィ & クリス リサイタル B・Cとその仲間たち (1973). They contributed to the cultural exchange between Hawaii, Idaho and Japan, introducing American folk music to a broader audience in Japan. Their unique sound and bilingual performances made them a notable act during the late 1960s and early 1970s. Christine Rolseth passed away on February 16, 2021, due to a kidney disease associated with diabetes.
