The Wihan Quartet is a Czech string ensemble formed in 1985 at the Prague Academy of Musical Arts. The founding members were Leoš Čepický, Jan Schulmeister, Jiří Žigmund, and Aleš Kaspřík. The group studied with Antonín Kohout and was named after cellist Hanuš Wihan. The ensemble received awards at the Prague Spring International Music Competition (1988), the chamber music competition at Trapani (1990), and the London International String Quartet Competition (1991). The quartet performed in Europe, the Far East, the United States, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand. The group recorded the complete string quartets of Ludwig van Beethoven and works by Antonín Dvořák and Leoš Janáček. The ensemble held a residency at the Trinity College of Music in London.
