Ookla the Mok is a filk rock group by Rand Bellavia and Adam English, and was formed in early 1990s in Buffalo, New York. The duo met in 1988 at Houghton College and named the band after a character from the television series Thundarr the Barbarian. Although they released Poor Man's Copyright in 1993 as "Rand and Adam," it was later rebranded under the band name. Their debut album as Ookla the Mok entitled Less Than Art, followed in 1997. The ensemble is known for humorous science fiction themes, such as the track "Kang the Conqueror" from the 2013 album vs. Evil. They provided the theme song for the Disney series Fillmore! and scored the film Bite Me, Fanboy!. The group won four Pegasus Awards and the 2014 Logan Award for "Mwahaha". They were the most requested artist on The Dr. Demento Show in 2012 for "Tantric Yoda" and in 2013 for "Mwahaha". Bellavia and English were inducted into the Filk Hall of Fame on April 20, 2024.
