May Blitz, a Canadian-British hard rock power trio, was formed in 1969. The band initially consisted of James Black on vocals and guitar, Terry Poole on bass, and Keith Baker on drums. They began performing locally in pubs, later signing with Vertigo Records. Before recording their debut album May Blitz, Poole and Baker left the band, replaced by Reid Hudson on bass and Tony Newman on drums. The self-titled debut was released in 1970, followed by The 2nd Of May in 1971, produced by John Anthony. Despite critical acclaim for their progressive acid rock and proto-metal sound, both albums saw poor sales, leading to the band's dissolution after the release of The 2nd Of May.
