Jerusalem is a Swedish Christian rock and metal ensemble formed in 1975 in Gothenburg. The group was established by Ulf Christiansson and was among the first to combine Christian lyrics with hard rock. The ensemble performed with an evangelical purpose, often including calls for conversions during concerts. Its eponymous debut recording, Jerusalem, appeared in 1978 and sold 20,000 copies within six months. The group released the recordings Volym (1980) and Krigsman (1981). The band's fourth album, Vi Kan Inte Stoppas (1983), featured a melodic rock style and received less support from some religious audiences. After becoming inactive in 1985, the group resumed activity in 1987 with the recording Dancing on the Head of the Serpent. Following a hiatus, the ensemble released the studio recording Prophet in 1994. The group's discography included the compilations Tretti (2006) and Greatest Hits (2006). Christiansson continued to lead the band with members including Anders Mossberg and Dan Tibell.
