Riefenstahl, a German Neue Deutsche Härte band from Hannover, was formed in 2002 by guitarist Ralph Laskowski, singer Jens "Centurio" Esch, and drummer Sven Petersen. The group made their international debut at the Musikmesse 2003 in Frankfurt. In September 2004, they successfully presented themselves at the PopKomm in Berlin, receiving excellent reviews. Bassist Daniel Peschel joined in 2005, and the band released their debut album Seelenschmerz that same year in Germany, followed by a European and worldwide release in 2006. Riefenstahl became ambassadors for Kronos e.V., an organization against child abuse, in April 2006. Their second album, Instinkt, was released in 2007. Shortly after the recording of this album, Petersen left and was replaced by Gregor Heise, who himself departed in 2008. From 2009 to 2011, Brazilian drummer Tiago "Shade" Saldanha was a member of the band, during which time they worked on their third album Triumph.
