Kang Taewoo, also known as Soulman, is a Korean R&B singer born on October 23, 1980. He debuted in 2003 as a member of the black gospel group Heritage of Faith with the album Heritage of Faith, and later gained recognition in Korea’s Black music scene through his work with Soul Society, a soul project team, thanks to his powerful vocals, steady rhythm, and excellent musical ear. In 2007, he showcased his singer-songwriter talent with the album Coffee Calls For A Cigarette, a collaboration with rapper Minos, which also earned him three nominations at the Korean Music Awards that year. Soulman has contributed as a top-tier chorus session on numerous popular albums by artists like Vibe, Kim Johan, Shin Seunghoon, Lynn, and Jung-in, while also participating in albums by groups like Supreme Team, Soul Dive, HybRefine, and Oriental Punk Stew, demonstrating a wide musical spectrum. In 2010, he launched his solo career with singles such as "Let's Get Started," and "Love Is On." Soulman is also an applied music professor at Kukje University of Arts and Seoul Theological University. His track "Own Your Name," part of the OST My Troublesome Star Part 4 released on September 9, 2025, debuted at number 1 on Melon’s Top 500 chart on the day of its release.
