The Essex Green, an American indie rock band from Brooklyn, was formed in 1997 by members of the Burlington, Vermont-based group Guppyboy. The band initially consisted of Jeff Baron, Sasha Bell, Chris Ziter, and Michael Barrett, who later added drummer Tim Barnes. They began performing around New York and released a split 7-inch single with the Sixth Great Lake in 1999. The Essex Green joined the Elephant Six Collective and released their self-titled EP that same year before signing with Kindercore Records for their debut full-length album, Everything Is Green (1999). After several tours and EPs, they signed with Merge Records, which released their second album, The Long Goodbye, in 2003. Following a world tour, The Essex Green recorded their third album, Cannibal Sea, which was released in 2006. Their album, Hardly Electronic, was released in 2018.
