The Cats and the Fiddle was an African American singing group formed in 1937 in Chicago, initially comprising Jimmy Henderson, Ernie Price, Chuck Barksdale, and Austin Powell. Their breakthrough came in 1939 when they were discovered by Lester Melrose and were signed to Bluebird Records, releasing the single "Nuts to You"/"Killin' Jive". Over the next decade they issued several singles, notably the hit "I Miss You So" (1940), and appeared in the film Going Places singing "Jeepers Creepers" with Louis Armstrong. The group signed to Regis/Manor in 1944, re‑recorded "I Miss You So" for that label, and released "That's My Desire" in 1946. They recorded with Gotham and Decca in 1950 and disbanded in 1951, after which former members formed the Austin Powell Quintet.
