Sarah Aroeste, born Sarah Julia Silverman in 1976 in Washington D.C., is an American singer, composer, and author of Sephardic Jewish music. Raised in Princeton, New Jersey, her family roots trace to Monastir, North Macedonia, and Thessaloniki, Greece. Aroeste trained in classical opera at Westminster Choir College and Yale University before studying Ladino music at the Israel Vocal Arts Institute in 1997. In 2001, she founded a rock band to perform traditional Sephardic music with modern arrangements for younger audiences. Aroeste’s discography includes A la Una: In the Beginning (2003), Puertas (2007), Gracia (2012), and the award-winning children’s album Ora de Despertar (2016). Later releases include Together/Endjuntos (2017), Monastir (2021), Hanuká (2021), and Savor (2023). In 2014, Aroeste won the Sephardic Prize at the International Jewish Music Festival in Amsterdam.
